Possesses an "internal" measurement tool. Mentally moves along an object, segmenting it and counting the segments. Operates arithmetically on measures ("connected lengths"). Subdivides a unit at least into halves. Estimates with accuracy.

Help your student become a(n) Conceptual Ruler Measurer

"Guess and check" activities with initial estimates followed by measurements can help children develop an "internal sense" of a length unit and interation of that unit mentally. Also useful are real-world benchmarks for length units (e.g., floor to top of most doorknobs is about a meter).
