Sub Trajectory: Comparing

Compares collections of 1–4 items verbally or nonverbally (“just by looking”). The items must be the same. May compare the small collections using number words “two" and “three” (approximately age 3; 2), and "three" and others (age 3; 6). Some do this even before they can accurately count by using recognition of number/subitizing for these quantities. May transfer an ordering relation from one pair of collections to another.

Help your student become a(n) Early Comparer of Similar Items

Activities ask children to compare small sets of identical objects using a range of strategies, from perceptual judgements without numbers to counting to subitizing (and if the child does not use numbers, these may be modeled by an adult, confirming the children's judgements).
